Kerry Williamson adapting Patricia Cornwell for Angelina Jolie
Like 1 Retweet 0They say the pen can be as sharp as a scalpel…
So screenwriter Kerry Williamson is wielding hers to adapt a feature screenplay featuring medical examiner Dr. Kay Scarpetta, the star of the best-selling mystery series written by Patricia Cornwell. Fox 2000 picked up the rights to the books in April with Angelina Jolie on board to star.
Mark Gordon, who pursued the rights after Columbia let them expire, is producing the project with Media Talent Group’s Geyer Kosinski, who is Jolie’s manager. Bryan Zuriff will serve as executive producer on the project.
The “Scarpetta” movie could be the launch of another potential franchise for Jolie, since there are now 17 Scarpetta novels. Putnam published Cornwell’s most recent, “The Scarpetta Factor,” in October.

Williamson’s thriller screenplay will draw from the world and characters Cornwell has created, but not from any novel’s specific plot.
The Gersh-repped Williamson has her adapted script “Fork in the Road” in development with director Alexander Payne at Fox Searchlight and “Breaking the Bank,” from an L. Jon Wertheim-penned Sports Illusrtrated article, set up with director Darren Aronofsky at his Protozoa Pictures.

I was interested in this back in April 2009 when it was first announced (more here – http://tinyurl.com/yg4de24)
Good to know they now have a screenwriter for it. If done well could be a good franchise. Still not sure if Jolie is the right choice, but we’ll have to wait and see.

She is super! I liked The Changeling. I also like that she stays away from those too candy romantic comedies! I’m a 52 year previous mother of two daughters and I would fairly they see woemn in films who can care for themselves reasonably than whine about breaking apart or finding a guy. I simply hope she keeps doing thrillers or drama or motion and leave these romantic comedies to the lesser talented .
