Jackie Chan loves his fans as much as they love him.
At the Hong Kong party in Berlin, the martial arts expert was stopped at every step with fans surrounding him and clicking their cellphone cameras. And the smiling actor stopped and posed with just about every one.
Chan is no newcomer to Berlin. He reminded the guests that he was here in 2003 while filming the remake of “Around the World in 80 Days.”
“When I was in Berlin, so many people helped me, and restaurants offered free food,” he said with a laugh. Chan’s film “Little Big Soldier” is screening in the Berlinale Special category.
After spending five months in Berlin, Chan said, he became a Berlin Bear ambassador. He spearheaded the campaign for a traveling exhibit of 100 Berlin Bear sculptures (these sculptures are designed by various artists and placed all around Berlin).

In the summer of 2004, this collection was exhibited at Hong Kong’s Victoria Park, and proceeds from the show were donated to the U.N. Children’s Fund. More than $1 million has been raised so far.
The delegation from the Government of Hong Kong hosted the party at the historic Kaisersaal venue, located at Sony center, to celebrate four films at the Berlinale.
Besides Chan’s film, other Hong Kong films at the Berlinale include “Echoes of Rainbow,” “True Legend” and “Amphetamine.”
Stephen Kay Wong, Government of Hong Kong’s director of Central and Eastern Europe, remarked on the emphasis now being given on Hong Kong’s film industry.
“We have developed an international fund to help filmmakers, and we are partnering with Mainland China so we can enter the international market,” he said.
Chan was on his way to the film’s red-carpet premiere where more fans awaited his arrival. As he exited the Kaisersaal, he said, “When I stop making films, I want to be a cinema owner. This way I can show lots of films.”

They are not “Berlin Bears.” Too bad you can’t get the facts straight. They were the Buddy Bears and the United Circle of Buddy Bears, which has traveled throughout the world, was begun in Berlin by a German named Eva Herlitz. If you’d gotten the name right, perhaps it could have generated some publicity for this charitable program. Shame on you. You call yourself a reporter?
