The Austin-based SXSW Film Festival has added a few late entries to its features and shorts programs.
“Four Lions,” a comedy, believe it or not, about a quartet of British jihadists, will screen at the festival. Chris Morris co-wrote and directed the film, which premiered at Sundance last month and will close the SXSW fest March 20. The festival kicks off March 12.
Eljiah Drenner’s documentary “American Grindhouse,” which explores the history of exploitation cinema, will world premiere. The science-fiction thriller “Cargo,” from directors Ivan Engler and Ralf Etter, will now screen along with the documentary “Haynesville: The Hunt for an Energy Future,” from writer-director Gregory Kallenberg.
The new additions also include the drama “Skateland,” which premiered at Sundance, the Johnny Depp-narrated documentary “When You’re Strange — a film about the Doors,” the Disney animation documentary “Waking Sleeping Beauty,” the Spike Jonze short “I’m Here,” the documentary short “Star Wars: Retold” and the late-night rock ‘n’ roll vampire flick “Suck,” which features appearances by real-life rockers Moby, Iggy Pop, Henry Rollins, Alex Lifeson and Alice Cooper.
